EVENT TODAY in Forest of Dean Cabinet of Change installed Mitcheldean 2.30-4 & Newnham 6-7.30pm

After six months work this fascinating cabinet will be installed into both libraries today. Do join us to see it in situ. Like all good visual art it’s difficult to explain in words – which is apt in a library!

Simon blogged about his research and that informed his exploration of the forest of dean. The form of the cabinet is inspired by the various fungi found in the woods, clinging to tree trunks and working with the hosts to grow and nourish.

Words and texts nourish too – we need libraries to stay alive and growing to support literacy.

With the Cabinet of Change, the library bookshelves host the artwork, and objects and texts temporarily inhabit the spaces it creates. Look between the books on the shelves and the inspiration for the artwork is revealed, embedded in the perspex using water-jet cutting to reproduce the form of a branch inside it.

As I said, it’s hard to describe it, you need to see it.

We’ll be at Mitcheldean library 2.30 until 4pm then Newnham on Severn from 6pm
