Friction – fact or fiction? Thanks to ACE Flow starts research phase of museum project

Friction is an art project that investigates the dynamic between fact and fiction, challenging the assumption that museums deal with the past and contemporary art is concerned with now and the future. Flow Contemporary Arts has commissioned artists Tara Downs and Bart Sabel to construct an interactive artwork that responds to collections in three Gloucestershire Museums: Holst Museum (Cheltenham), Museum in the Park (Stroud) and The Waterways Museum (Gloucester).

The resultant artwork will be in the form of a cabinet of curiosities – a miniature museum of museums. Each section of the cabinet will contain multimedia artefacts informed by their research and the cabinet will tour to all three locations during 2015. The content will intertwine both facts and fictions, workshops and conversations, evoking curiosity and wonder through mechanical and digital interactivity.

The project is funded by Arts Council England
