Final stages of preparation for a training day led by Gill Nicol for the Friction Project.
Funded by Arts Council England, supported by the partner museums: Holst Museum, Gloucester Waterways Museum and Museum in the Park, it’s going to be an interesting day. Hosted by Gloucester Folk Museum.
We’ll be having a sneak preview of the new cabinet by Tara Downs and Bart Sabel, commissioned by Flow to respond to the collections of all three museums. Be prepared for fascinating combinations of coggage and electronics, sounds, lights and machines.
We’ll be discussing commissioning art in museums – why contemporary art?How can contemporary art draw attention to museum collections and offer new perspectives? How can we talk about that art comfortably?
I’ll let you know in a few days when I have assimilated the learning.
